A Short Bio

I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.

I initially studied mathematics at the University of Waterloo completing an honours degree majoring in Combinatorics and Optimization.   The normal response to this is “You majored in what?”.  And truthfully much of what “C&O” is about will remain neatly tucked away in the ivory towers of mathematical institutions.  But what the training brings to the rest of the world is the ability to take any situation and look at all of the possible choices (Combinatorics) and then find the optimal way through  (Optimization).

On graduation, I married Wayne, the brother of one of my classmates, who was a dairy farmer in rural Ontario near Goderich.  And out to the farm I moved! The next few years were filled with adjusting to a completely different lifestyle, doing some computer consulting and then having two wonderful children - Aaron and Taylor.

Then I had a life-changing experience. I found lumps growing in one of my breasts.  After losing all the women in my family to breast cancer (including my mom 4 years earlier), I chose to take an alternative way through the illness.  After finding a wise man (I like to call him a guru even though he hates that :)) that guided and mentored me through the crisis, I had a miraculous healing which altered my life forever.  This story and the subsequent research findings are the subject of the book What if you could skip the Cancer that was published July 1st, 2009.

This experience prompted intense study and research into other spontaneous healings and the connections between the mind, body and spirit.  This then led me back to my mathematics roots with further study of Quantum physics, non-linear systems theory and chaos theory.

I found that these sciences helped to map these spontaneous healings.  In fact, they mapped and explained all kinds of bizarre things that happen every day that are unexplained by “regular” science.  The great thing is that they actually reinforce what we already know intuitively about the crazy world around us.

In May 2008, I began teaching Kundalini Yoga, a fascinating blend of many of the different kinds of yoga out there.  I love that anyone can do this yoga - no need to be a pretzel!  No matter what your fitness level or age, Kundalini Yoga is a phenomenal way to start healing from the inside out with the added benefit of strengthening the body and increasing flexibility!

In January, 2010, I restored a historic train station in Goderich which I call "East Street Station".  This is a place where you'll find dance, yoga, seminars, coffeehouses, and anything else that is healing, enriching, fun, and community-building.  Please check it out at www.eaststreetstation.ca.

At the station, I teach Kundalini Yoga, meditation, dance, bellydance, and various workshops.  I also do counselling from an intuitive perspective often using a fascinating tool called "Energy Grids" to really see what's going on inside of us to help us heal and move forward.
